The amour propre in twinship is an inflamed desire to be held in esteem, both by your love and as a collective entity by the world. The observed faults strengthen the total unit, ie. opposites attract—not the one to another but the many to the pair.

Sometimes, though, one is so delirious from infatuation that it isn’t clear if they are looking out at an admiring crowd or at something far less human, like a murder of slender black crows.

This uncertainty, transcending maddening hunger, might be too painful to bear.
